Mający kompleksy na punkcie swojego niewielkiego wzrostu, ale nadrabiający niedostatki aparycji masą energii i wybuchowym charakterem Kenji Gion pierwszego dnia szkoły spotyka wysokiego, lecz strasznie nieśmiałego Sumiakiego Iwashimizu. Razem zostają oni zaproszeni do obejrzenia treningu szkolnej drużyny rugby przez jej wicekapitana, Mutsumiego Hachioujiego, znajomego Sumiakiego z poprzedniej szkoły. Jak się okazuje, w rugby może grać każdy, niezależnie od wzrostu czy postury. Każdy zresztą może być tam gwiazdą, jako iż na boisku nie ma liderów ani pozycji szczególnie wyróżniających się. To zaś bardzo pasuje Kenjiemu, więc szybko postanawia dołączyć do klubu, wciągając w to (początkowo z lekkimi problemami) także nowego kolegę.
